No one should have to pay for toxic water. Flint, Mich. — On Thursday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m. Food & Water Watch and Water You Fighting For will hold a brief press conference at Flint City Hall before delivering petitions to Mayor Karen Weaver, City Administrator Natasha Henderson and Flint’s Chief Financial Officer Jody Lundquist calling on them to issue a moratorium on water bills in the city. Copies of the petition are also being delivered to Governor Snyder and Attorney General Bill Schuette. The people of Flint have been subjected to toxic drinking water for over a year, and yet they are expected to pay for the toxic water flowing from their faucets. To add insult to injury, residents are paying some of the highest combined water and sewage bills in the county. No one should have to pay for water that is poisoned. We’ve collected almost 20,000 petition signatures since yesterday afternoon from residents in Flint, across Michigan and nationally calling on local and state officials to put a stop to water bills and to prevent water shut offs for non-payment. WHAT: Flint residents and activists will gather at Flint City Hall, calling for a moratorium on water bills SPEAKERS: Lynna Kaucheck, Food & Water Watch Melissa Mays, Water You Fighting For VISUALS: Participants will deliver over 20,000 petitions to Mayor Karen Weaver, City Administrator Natasha Henderson, and Chief Financial Officer Jody Lundquist Food & Water Watch champions healthy food and clean water for all. We stand up to corporations that put profits before people, and advocate for a democracy that improves people’s lives and protects our environment.

It's time to show the city, Governor, state and whole world that we are serious! Share this with every activist, supporter, loved one and friend that you know! There are problems with our water source and the cleaning systems and too many people are showing signs of allergic reactions, health issues getting worse, rashes, hair loss and more! We are paying the highest rate for water and are getting the lowest quality! We cannot afford to wait around until they figure it out! We are not lab rats! WE DEMAND CLEAN, SAFE, AFFORDABLE WATER! On Valentine's Day, we are going to have a peaceful march from City Hall to The Durant. We're meeting at 1:00 at City Hall amd ending at The Durant. Please make signs, bring your friends and dress warmly!! Tell everyone you know! We need the world to see that we are NOT OK with our government turning a blind eye to what is happening!! http://www.facebook.com/events/1563448437244938/
