The Detroit and Michigan Chapter the NLG is proud to announce our 2015 Annual Dinner. 2015 Honoree Attorney Alice Jennings Alice Jennings, a long-time Detroit Civil Rights attorney who began her work in law school at Wayne State, supporting affirmative action in law school admissions, and who has continued to fight for People’s rights to this day, as she leads the pro se legal team fighting the water shut- offs that have garnered international attention and outrage. 2015 Unsung Hero We the People of Detroit We the People of Detroit, a grassroots organization founded in 2008 to fight against the Mayoral takeover of Detroit Public Schools. The group is dedicated to community coalition-building and has spearheaded initiatives to resist Emergency Management. They are on the ground, currently providing door to door in cooperation with 38 community-based organizations fighting the recent water shut-offs.
