You are needed to help Detroit families settle their delinquent water bills with a fair, affordable payment! On Saturday, Aug. 2, we are planning to transport hundreds of Detroit families to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department's first-ever Water Affordability Fair, taking place from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Eastside Customer Service Center located at 13303 E. McNichols, near Gratiot. On Friday night, Aug. 1, we are training Brigade volunteers to serve as 'Water Advocates' and accompany families with their bills into the payment center to ensure they are treated respectfully and offered fair plans and the financial assistance they need to continue to receive affordable, clean water. Dinner will be served! Veggie and vegan options available as well. All types of volunteers are needed, but especially helpful are: people with vehicles, legal expertise, negotiation skills, prior experience working with low-income families, babysitters for our Kids Center outside the Fair, and just caring folks willing to dedicate some time on Saturday to help a family in need. You are not required to donate anything to participate, but you may optionally help support families with a small donation to their water bills on the day of the event. #DetroitWater #WageLove
