The overwhelming sentiment at the Nov. 2012 public meeting was that the original Magic Plus plan was a thing of the past which under-utilized a site rich with heritage and potential. The community was able to consider a different vision, thanks to the work of State Fairgrounds Development Coalition (SFDC), of which the GWCA is a part. Volunteer professionals, working as part of the coalition, developed alternative concepts based on community input, which it assembled in drawings and analysis and named: META Expo: Michigan Energy Technology Agriculture Exposition. “What can Michigan show the world?” One of the core differences between the State’s Magic Plus LLC plan and the community’s vision is over transportation. The plan presented by Joel Ferguson was based solely on the car; 43% of this prized location was to be paved over by asphalt for parking. The META Expo envisions a “multi-modal” transit hub, bringing together commuter rail, light rail, Rapid Bus System and local buses, for which Federal money is available. That hub would be part of “Transit Oriented Development” (TOD), which has helped revitalize urban centers across the US. At the meeting on June 16th you will be updated about “META Expo.” During discussion, your input will be welcomed. Come to the meeting and learn about “Transit Oriented Development,” and more!
