Our UCA Jesuit Martyrs Fundraiser dinner will be held Monday evening, March 20, from 6:30 to 9 pm in the Ballroom. Music begins at 6:45, provided by Ismael Duran, an accomplished Chilean guitarist and singer/songwriter. Our dinner will feature pupusas from from El Catracho Central American Restaurant. Our two keynote speakers are flying in from El Salvador for this event. Kevin Yonkers-Talz is the director of Casa de la Solidaridad, which is an academic, praxis-based study abroad program offered by Santa Clara University, based at the Jesuit-run Central American University in El Salvador. He will be joined by Julio Perez, Program Coordinator for the Romero Program. Both have been good friends to Dean Brackley, S.J., the Jesuit who helped to found the Casa program and who promoted the UCA Martyrs Scholarship Program, a fund that helps poor Salvadoran students to attend the UCA. Family members of Dean Brackley including his sister (Jane), brother (Richard) and sister in law (Laura) will be with us. Attendance is free for Detroit Mercy students. Others are asked to donate $10-$50 per ticket, with all proceeds going to the scholarship fund.
