On Monday, Feb 15th, we will be holding an important Detroit Labor for Bernie meeting at the Anchor Bar at 6PM. This is crunch time. The Michigan primaries will be held on March 8th. The newly appointed Michigan Bernie 2016 campaign director, Ryan Hughes and/or the newly appointed field organizer for Michigan, Alex van Schaick will be attending this meeting and they will be letting us know what we can do to help out the campaign. So it’s important we show up to this meeting to get info and ask questions. There are several ways to help in the meantime. 1) People are needed to do phone banking for Bernie. You can do this in the comfort of your own home, or invite friends over and hold a phone bank party. To learn how to participate, go to link above and follow the instructions. 2) It’s vitally important that we communicate with our sisters and brothers in the workplace. Talk Bernie up at work, write a flyer and pass it out at work, or ask your local to if a speaker from Detroit Labor for Bernie can speak at your next membership or retiree meeting. If they are interested, Email or call me at 586-489-5838, and let me know. 3) The UAW is supposed to be polling the membership about who they want the UAW to endorse. If you are a UAW member and have not heard anything about the straw vote from your local, call your local and/or Region and ask what’s happening and when the polling is going to take place. Demand that your voice be heard! Additionally, the deadline for registering to vote in the March 8th primary is tomorrow, Monday Feb 9th. If you know of any friends, family or coworkers who are not registered to vote tell them to head to their city, or township clerk’s office, or visit a Secretary of State branch tomorrow.

IN ORDER TO RESERVE YOUR BUS SEAT, YOU NEED TO REGISTER AND PAY $5: International Workers' Day, also known as May Day, occurs every year on May 1st and commemorates the Haymarket affair in Chicago. This day has since been used to show our power as workers!*** What better way to honor this important day in Labor history than to take a bus tour of historic locations throughout Detroit where workers have shown courage through strikes, pickets, and other job actions? Many of us, in and around the city, don't know our own Labor history very well. So, let's take a couple of hours to hangout with other cool kids, have some drinks, and learn about the impressive history of Detroit's working class...and maybe even hear about some radical plans for the future! NOTE: To reserve your seat on the bus, you MUST register at http://www.gofundme.com/qbq6b8. THE COST IS ONLY $5.00! Join us on May 1st for an event you don't want to miss! Our tour will start at Anchor Bar, located at 450 Fort St. (near Cass Ave.) in Detroit, at 6:00pm. The bus will leave promptly at 6:30 with stops at the site of the old Dodge Main Plant, Grand Circus Park, and Hart Plaza. We'll get to hear from fellow activists who have lived through the struggles that took place at and around some of these historic locations. We'll also have a few artists from the area join us to add a little flavor to our expedition! The bus will return to Anchor Bar around 9pm where we can keep the party going and get to know one another! Parking adjacent to Anchor Bar is free as long as there is no attendant in the lot. You can also park elsewhere and catch the People Mover to the Fort/Cass station. This tour is sponsored by Bernie's Brigade and Detroit Area Workers Now (DAWN). Contact trinatocco@gmail.com if you have questions or want to purchase multiple tickets. *** The Haymarket affair was the aftermath of a bombing that took place at a labor demonstration on Tuesday May 4, 1886, at Haymarket Square in Chicago. It began as a peaceful rally in support of workers striking for an eight-hour day. In reaction to the killing of several workers on the previous day by the police, an unknown person threw a dynamite bomb at police as they acted to disperse the public meeting. The bomb blast and ensuing gunfire resulted in the deaths of seven police officers and at least four civilians; scores of others were wounded. http://www.facebook.com/events/1595897443986830/

The group that's working on getting money out of politics. A phone bank event is a fun in-person get together for WPMI team members. Eat, drink and be merry, and meet some of your fellow soldiers in the WPMI army! The business portion of the evening will involve calling Michigan legislator’s offices after hours, to leave a message. The message lets the legislator know that there are folks extremely interested in the issue of corruption in the form of monied influence in our political system.

TYT Detroit Army, Wolf Pac Michigan supporters, friends of The David Pakman Show, fans of the Best of the Left Podcast, and all our other progressive friends from Southeast Michigan - or those coming to town for NN14: join us for an epic joint meetup event during the Netroots Nation conference! As many of you know, the 9th Netroots Nation conference will be held at Cobo Hall July 17-20 of this year. We'll meet at The Anchor Bar on the 17th, the Thursday night of the conference. The Anchor Bar, which you’ll find on Fort Street in the Mercier building, is well known in Detroit for welcoming and supporting progressive causes. Owner Vaughn and the rest of the Anchor staff are happy to have our merry little band for this exciting event. I expect the TYT Army will make a strong showing as we welcome new local friends, as well as our special guests from afar, including: David Pakman from The David Pakman Show, Jay Tomlinson from Best of the Left, Wolf Pac Michigan State Director Shaun MacDonald and Wolf Pac National Directors Mike Monetta and Ryan Clayton. And for those coming down to Anchor for the first time: you’ll find lots of parking available, either on the street in front of / near the bar, or in adjacent lots. And for anyone attending Netroots Nation, the Anchor Bar is a block north of Cobo Hall on Fort Street.

Calling all TYT Army Members and progressive friends - join us for a fun night at the Freedom Fest! We'll meet at the The Anchor Bar starting around 5:00, as people get off work and make their way downtown. Then we'll have a nice place to hang out, enjoying eats and drinks, as we wait until for the fireworks show. The fireworks usually start about 10:00, depending on the weather. We *may* be able to get up on top of a marvelous rooftop to watch the fireworks; we'll know more later. In any case, we'll only be a couple of blocks away from many great viewing spots, so the plan is to gather at Anchor and then see where the evening takes us! Do plan to get downtown as soon as you can, as many roads will close early. If you have any issues and need to reach me, please call/text (I don't receive e-mails when I'm on the go) me at 248.219.9023. http://www.facebook.com/events/145642605606356/
