Winter blew in last time and gave us a rude welcome to the cold time of the year. Cold for us for a couple of hours, cold for our friends, hour after hour. We did what we could and will continue to bring some relief and comfort to those around the Park area. A good warm meal, some winter ready clothing, the necessities for hygiene and a good dose of friendship. Since Robert Burns birthday is the 25th and he stands at the Temple entrance of the Park and has watched us on our Sundays, this one is for him. Looking forward to another Sunday in the Park http://www.facebook.com/events/783357508477248/

The Fall season begins at Cass Park this Sunday. The weather has been warm and comfortable this week, but the nights are cooling down. It won't change all at once but it is time to think about warmer clothes and warmer meals. The meals will change in time and so will the clothes we share with our friends. Keep that in mind as you go through your closets and find things that may come in handy for others. I have finally started setting more time aside to be at the Park to check up on people. There is a change in the way people see the future of the Park. Some even wonder if we will be able to be there next year. All rumor and speculation right now but it comes up in every conversation these days. At the same time people are looking back over the past years we have been there on those Sundays. Good memories, good heartfelt appreciation for the friendship that has been shared. I get to hear how so many of you have have been able to reach out and touch peoples hearts. Tough guys don't get tears in their eyes unless someone touched their heart when they needed it most. Tonight was one of those nights as we talked and shared stories. So it is time to get ready for another Sunday in the Park and another chance to create a memory with our Friends. http://www.facebook.com/events/1614470705483884/

With Labor Day behind us and a cooling breeze, blowing away the heat, there is a change in the weather. Still good comfortable temps right now, with a good long Fall to look forward to. Still it means a change in what is needed for our friends. Clothes, a little warmer. School clothes for some of the young ones. School supplies for the handful of school kids we know. Always need socks and clean underwear. Women's needs for their personal use. Hygiene items for both the men and women. Food, fresh fruits and vegetables. If your tomatoes are still producing and you want to package them up to pass out, that would be great. Sweets, cakes, cookies and that special something that makes the walk through the food line have a happy ending, would be great too. Over the years we have created a good Sunday in the Park get together that makes most people feeling a whole lot better after being there. I am sure this Sunday will be the same. See you Sunday. http://www.facebook.com/events/522159637947340/

Some things matter more than others. Our Sunday in the Park has been one of those things that matters and has made a difference. We have created a community on both sides of the line. For our friends around the park it gives them a chance to get some things they need, sit down and enjoy a meal and socialize. It gives them a chance to be able to reach out of their neighborhood and have contact with others. It has also given them a park they now more than ever call their own. When I stop by from time to time it always looks clean and comfortable. Many have helped make it that way, especially, Woodside Church. They have put many hours and people in the park to help maintain it. There are others like Daryl who put in hours of care and spreading the word to our friends and other feeding groups to keep the park clean and friendly. Lots of our friends have helped. Sure they found a body in the Doghouse a couple of weeks ago, so and so is in jail for breaking into one of the buildings a couple of weeks back and so and so is laying low because he owes money to the drug dealer. But, we still have made a difference, because our Sundays in the Park matter. Because you have shown our friends that they matter. So, now it is time to get ready for another Sunday in Cass Park. Do what you can to feed, cloth and show some friendship and we will see each other at 11:00 am on July 26th. http://www.facebook.com/events/1617872211794431/

So far it has been a mild Summer with more cool than hot days. Yet these are the days that are called the dog days. For some of our friends, being treated like a dog can be any day if they don't have the do re mi to fit into the new Detroit. That doesn't happen on our Sundays in the Park and that never has been what we do. Getting together and sharing a meal, sharing some necessities, some conversation, showing respect and being respected. We have made some good friends with the people around the park and hopefully this summer will be a continuation of what has happened over the past several years. So lets get ready for another Sunday in Cass Park with our friends http://www.facebook.com/events/841141789267654/

The Summer Holidays begin the weekend. Hard for me to believe that but it is. The turn out has been strong since it has warmed up and it seems no matter how much we bring it is all gone in our time there. The support on our side of the line has been strong too and that is always a good thing for our friends. If you are in town this weekend, Sunday will give us a chance to put a little Holiday time in Cass Park. Do what you can and do what you have been doing and it should be another good Sunday to be in the Park http://www.facebook.com/events/823212721099695/

Mother's Day in Cass Park has always been extra special for the Mother's around the Park and the Mother's that have made these Sundays their own. This Sunday should be more of the same. We have been trying to meet the needs of the Women around the Park the past few months. Often not included on the list of things those on the street need for personal hygiene, not to mention the higher cost for those items for those that have little. So take that into consideration when you are wondering what it is you can bring. That list could include flowers and a good piece of chocolate. We will continue to do what we can to fill the belly and brighten the day of our friends around the Park and in the end it does the same to us. Looking forward to Mother's Day in Cass Park. http://www.facebook.com/events/997072766999481/

We will be back in Cass Park this Sunday, April 26th at 11:00 am. Springtime is setting in and things are beginning to turn green. I was there last Saturday for some clean up and had some talks with people coming through the Park. People look forward to our time together and they enjoy the openness and fellowship. One fella was talking about people bringing their kids, he loves it. Learning early things they will never forget. I hope the parents bringing your kids feel the same way. The needs remain the same and the neighborhood will be changing with the construction of the arena ready to start. Lets keep doing what we do and have a good Sunday with each other. http://www.facebook.com/events/1578691235712485/
