This months meeting is being held in a restaurant so please plan to patronize them. This meeting is an organizational meeting for those who have officially volunteered on www.letsbanfracking.org . It is not an explorative meeting but those still learning about fracking are welcome to come and listen. Our meetings start with news about fracking issues around the country and quickly delve into organizational discussions centered around upcoming events and the committee happenings around the state. The theme for this year's conference is "I Resolved Never to Be Conquered": Women and the Underground Railroad. This sentiment penned by freedom seeker Harriet Jacobs, shows her determination, "though one of God's most powerless creatures," to retain control over herself and her body despite her enslaved status. The conference's focus on women recognizes NTF program's new organizational link with the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Monument, and will explore that while Tubman has been the dominant image of women and the Underground Railroad, her involvement is part of a larger story of women's participation in the movement, as freedom seekers and as operatives. The five-day conference in Downtown Detroit will include renowned speakers, panel discussions, an exhibit hall, and tours of local museums and historic sites. There will also be a tour to Canada on Sunday, July 20th. So be sure to have your passports or enhanced driver's licenses ready! Registration is available through the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) at: http://asalh.net/ugrr.html

On Monday, April 14th - the day before tax day – Labor along with our allies and members of the State House and Senate will be crossing the state to shine a spotlight on the Republican’s massive tax shift onto middle class families and seniors, all to pay for a $1.8 billion tax break for corporations and CEOs. There is no evidence that this tax cut for corporations created a single job, but there is plenty of evidence that the cuts to education and new taxes on seniors and the middle class are hurting Michigan families These events will highlight citizens with real stories to tell about how tax hikes enacted by Governor Snyder and Legislative Republicans are hurting our families. They will include seniors hit by the retirement tax, middle class families hit by any variety of tax increases, including the cutting of the per-child tax credit and families hit by deep education cuts. Please attend these events if you can. We understand it is a workday... keep reminding people of what has happened under this administration and legislature! Please Arrive at 12:30 Press Event Begins at 1pm
