Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 9am-2:30pm
There has been a lot of talk over the past few months in Lansing about public pensions, and there is a chance that before the Legislature closes the 2016 session, there will be an attempt to slash pension benefits for hard-working public employees across Michigan. Legislative leaders in the House and Senate have stated that “reforming” public pensions is one of their top priorities, but when they say “reform,” we know that they really mean “reduce,” “cut,” or “abolish.” Pro-public pension advocates from across Michigan will converge on Lansing on Tuesday, November 29 for a day of discussion and advocacy about protecting public pensions. They will receive training from CSR-MI leaders on how best to carry our message of protecting pensions, and then they will go to the Capitol to talk with State Senators and State Representatives to tell their own stories about why their pension and retiree health care benefits are so important to them and their families. #ProtectPensions #ProtectMIPensions If you would like to join us, please RSVP to Capitol Services, Inc. by calling 517-372-0860. Our schedule for the day is as follows: 9:00amMeet in Mackinac Room of the House Office Building (124 N. Capitol Ave, Lansing) Receive advocacy training and issue education 10:00amAttend Senate Session Talk to your State Senator outside of session 11:30amReturn to Mackinac Room for Lunch 1:00pmAttend House Session Talk to your State Representative outside of session 2:30pmEnd of Pension Action Day Make no mistake, there is a strong push to abolish public pensions for school employees, fire fighters, transit workers, police officers, public health nurses, and hundreds of thousands of other hard working Michiganders who serve our state, schools and communities. Traditional pensions are not only the bedrock of a secure retirement for these individuals, they are a staple of our economy that benefit every community in Michigan. We hope that you can join us on November 29 to help deliver that message to our state lawmakers. https://www.facebook.com/events/330865237284054/
