Join nutrition educator, Nikolette Barnes to learn how to make some of your favorite southern dishes in a healthy way. You don’t have to give up flavor to eat healthier. This workshop includes a cooking demo, delectable samples and recipes that your whole family will love. This workshop follows Wild Edibles, a class that shows how to use the wild plants in your environment for food and medicine. This informative session is taught by Tepfirah Rushdan from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Detroit Market Stand is open. Attend the class and receive a coupon for our Grown in Detroit Market Stand. This class is $5 or FREE for Build A Garden members.

This popular Wild Edibles workshop includes a walking tour and presentation on the use of edible wild plants by Tepfirah Rushdan, the director of urban agriculture at the Greening of Detroit. Ms. Rushdan began her career at the Greening clearing vacant lots throughout the city of Detroit and discovered hidden treasures in our environment that are often ignored. Many of the plants that are deemed as weeds are wild plants that can provide food and medicine, which is essential for survival. This workshop will give a new lens to view your environment. This class is $5 or FREE for Build A Garden members. This workshop will be followed by Food for the Soul: Delicious Soul Food Made Healthy is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. facilitated by nutrition educator, Nikolette Barnes.
