Join underpaid working people, stand together for work that pays enough for us to sustain our families. We’ll call on Rick Snyder to raise pay and respect our right to form unions, and stop letting the wealthy and powerful write the rules in their favor. Together, we can work to end racism and oppression, and create a path to citizenship for immigrants.

For Immediate Release From the Moratorium NOW! Coalition in Detroit Contact: 313-671-3715 On March 31 the Wayne County Treasurer's Office after months of television ads saying that the deadline for paying delinquent taxes could not be delayed due to state law, a six week extension was announced. This was the direct result of popular pressure from several community-based organizations. We need to extend this delay past May 12 for a real moratorium on all tax foreclosures until this crisis can be resolved. There are still 37,000 owner-occupied home seizures pending and more than 62,000 foreclosures overall set to take place. This must be stopped immediately! There is no reason anyone should be thrown out of their homes in Wayne County. The banks and corporations are responsible for the economic crisis facing this area. The politicians must be pressured into demanding that the $250 million in federal hardest hit funds be utilized to pay these back taxes and that there should be a reassessment of all homes located in Detroit and Wayne County to reduce the grossly inflated tax bills. Join us on Thurs. April 16 at Noon in front of the State Office Building (Cadillac Place) located on West Grand Blvd. between Cass and Second. Bring your signs and banners. This is the building where the offices of the Michigan State Development Housing Authority (MSHDA) is located, they are sitting on the funds that could save everyone's homes in Wayne County. Demand an Immediate Long-term Moratorium on Tax Foreclosures! Release the Hardest Hit Funds! Make the Banks Pay for the Destruction of Our Communities! http://www.facebook.com/events/1418001181840891/

State workers did their part during tough fiscal times. Now the state has a huge surplus, but is still asking workers to give. Please stand in solidarity with state workers as they tell the governor, "No more concessions!"
