How much regulation do you think coal plants have on dumping their wastewater into the Great Lakes? If you answered "almost nothing" to this question, you'd, unfortunately, be correct. Coal ash is largely unregulated but that's about to change. The Environmental Protection Agency has released new rules that protect our water quality. However, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality is once again allowing industries to avoid the law for as long as possible. Please join us at our next meeting on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, to learn more. Location, as always, is 2550 Hilton Rd, Ferndale, MI 48220. We also discuss a few other important things, including a lawsuit from US Steel that will impact the last few years of work we've been doing around sulfur dioxide pollution. RSVP Link: https://www.facebook.com/events/282816425450428/ Other items include the volunteer dinner, upcoming events, and the potential to be pushing back against DTE Energy's rate increases. I hope to see you there! Andrew Sarpolis Associate Organizing Representative Southeast Michigan Beyond Coal Campaign 2550 Hilton Rd, Suite C Ferndale, MI 48220 Phone (248) 924-4857
