A dedicated group of volunteers has been bringing healthy, nutritious meals to Cass Park for almost 7 years. We are at the park on the second and fourth Sundays of every month, all year 'round, rain or snow or summer heat. This fundraiser is the main source of income for this effort. It keeps the sausage in the jambalaya. We will be serving a delicious spaghetti dinner with both meat sauce and vegetarian sauce, along with salad and garlic bread, and delicious desserts. Ed Dupas is the opening performer. Then there is the duo of Carl Henry & Tony Berci, and King Sweat Detroit closes the night. We ask for a donation of $15, but we urge you to give what you can. Nobody will be turned away because they can't pay. The income from this fundraiser buys the food and supplies for all of the healthy, nutritious hot meals we share with our friends at Cass Park, on the 2nd & 4th Sundays, all year 'round. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Two notes about parking: 1) Only the fenced lot behind the League and the row along the east side of the building are GL property (free). The big lot east of the League is privately owned, and he is now charging to park. 2) Parking zones have recently been created in Corktown for street parking. Observe parking fee collection units on each block.

The Holiday Season is here, and it is Christmas time in Cass Park. Think what You want about this time of the year, but it is a time when people think about better times. That doesn't always make people happy when those memories are out of reach. We may wonder, why aren't they home with their families. They will be if we treat them like Family and Friends. So it is a time when we can put a little extra into how we reach out to others. What we have to give is what we have been giving, that smile, that hug, that helping hand and a bit of Friendship. Over our time at Cass Park there have been many times when just out of the blue someone will tell me thanks for being there. I am sure others have had that happen to them also. That is what it is all about. Sometimes the littlest thing is what matters most. Speaking of Thank You. To All of You that showed Your support and gave so generously, Thank You ♥ Your Help will go a long way in making this Winter a little warmer for Our Friends around the Park. The invitation is open to all who would like to be here at Cass Park, the Faithful, Friends, the Neighbors of the Park and all who want to share a meal. Come and have a meal, come and lend a hand or both. As a loosely organized group we have been coming to Cass Park twice a month to feed people since Fathers Day 2011. Later we came to feed and clothe people. As we learned how little the City cared for and picked up the trash we came to feed, cloth and clean the Park. Now we will work to keep the Park clean and maintained. I know we like it here and we have grown to like the regulars we feed who some of them are Neighbors of the Park along with many more that come because of what we offer. We don't know all the time if we are feeding those in need or those that take advantage of the others, we do the best we can. So again I look forward to see You at Cass Park this Sunday http://Facebook.com/events/552521138174459

Back to our regular 4th Sunday again this week and we should be able to keep to the normal pattern for the foreseeable future. Summer is here in full strength lately and it takes its toll on our Friends that have little. Our time together in the Park is a welcome meal and time together for many. We have seen those that were fed before join us in the cooking and serving. Thats what it is all about. People doing together what we can't do by ourselves. The Park itself is going through a lot of good changes. Cleaner and more maintained thanks to the efforts of those that respect this public space. Woodside Church and the Mariner's Inn have been doing wonders with the lawn and the bushes around the Park. Even the little humble garden has produced fruits of Friendship and a handful of vegetables for those that pass by. Take a look around and see if we can't do something right in the area we serve in.
