Time to plan the March Against Monsanto in Detroit. This is a pre-planning meeting so we can get some work done before the face-to-face meeting on April 28. There will be additional hangouts planned before the date - hopefully online coordinating works well for everyone. Additional face-to-face can be arranged, but we need a good space to work from on those. For now plans on April 28 have been directed to 5e Gallery, 4605 Cass Ave, Detroit at 6:30pm. (There's a reason for the date, time, location to make it easier for a few dedicated organizers to be there). Here's a shortcut link to the hangout - http://goo.gl/JKLi7B Full URL - https://plus.google.com/events/csiktu596qjkjjrlqgj2349r564 You can join by phone or with webcam

May 24, 2014 is approaching it is time to gather those interested in assisting in organizing for the May and October MARCH AGAINST MONSANTO worldwide events as they occur around metro Detroit. There are a number of activities happening around downtown Detroit. Being around an existing group of people can be beneficial as we saw in October 2013 with the Pink Walk held downtown just before the MAMdetroit started. We gained listening with those facing cancer - informing them that the diet of genetically engineered foods plays as a factor leading to a number of cancers. This is an organizing meeting. We may be able to open up a phone conference or video chat for those unable to make it to the event and record discussion. We're asking for those that come to the meeting or listen in find a way to contribute into the holding of the march in May & October. http://www.facebook.com/events/597534997004244/

Dear Southwest Detroit Community, In September we held a community conversation around changes occurring in the community. The topic was left very broad to allow people to freely think what some of the issues were. Some of the issues were: 1.) Gentrification 2.)Name Change 3.) Cross Community / Cross Cultural Communication 4.) Safety Over the last months we've gathered information on Policy's as it relates to Gentrification, and insuring that residents are protected among the many changes occurring in the neighborhood. Please join us on February 25th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Earhart Elementary-Middle. There will also be a Spanish Speaking Let's Talk Conversation: Part II on the same day, but from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Phoenix Multicultural Academy. Spanish and English speakers are invited to both meetings, as translation will be provided at both. Once again, please join us as we report back on what the community stated at the last Let's Talk Conversation in September, and present on Policy's to protect against Gentrification. After the presentation, we also plan to have break out group sessions to further talk about further issues, and further solutions. Congress of Communities is looking to play the role of gathering voices around this crucial issue. We hope to see everybody present (: http://www.facebook.com/events/210048449196579/

There will be a public push to address the coming dredge operation and neglect of toxic chemicals endangering the local communities and workers on the "Bentler site" which will process toxic chemicals withen a few 100 ft of several homes and also the Galesburg baseball field. The Calhoun county prosecution ( most likely being strong armed by Corporate entity Endbridge) will hope to over turn the successful motion to quash against the Mi cat June 24th "Skate board pipeline protest". http://www.facebook.com/events/1464694020412834/
